Seriously, though, I think Macavity was really meant to be a caricature of Moriarty, I’m pretty sure someone out there has already made a fanvid. The similarities are explicit (domed forehead, snakelike swaying of head, sunken eyes, outwardly respectable, Napoleon of crime, etc), and I just took a look at the original Eliot poem, which had the following extra verses (not in any of the soundtracks, as far as I remember), and hello Naval Treaty and Bruce-Partington Plans:

Or the Admiralty lose some plans and drawings by the way
